Works Begins on Duggan Park

A major upgrade of the Duggan G.A.A. Park in Ballinasloe has commenced last week. The Project, which has been sanctioned for both Planning Permission and Grant Aid by Ballinasloe Town Council, consists of the erection of floodlights, the construction of new entrances and exits, including gates and turnstiles; along with the construction of boundary walls, fencing and netting; new toilets and scoreboard and pitch re-alignment and improvements. Phase one of the Project will cost circa E250,000.00 and this is being grant aided by Ballinasloe Town Council, with the G.A.A. providing matching funds.
County Chairman, Noel Treacy, who this week turned the sod for the new Development, thanked the Members and Management of Ballinasloe Town Council for their vision and commitment in supporting the upgrade of this vital and strategic sporting infrastructure. He also thanked the Officers and Members of the Duggan Park G.A.A. Development Committee for their dedication and leadership in spear-heading such a large Project. He also paid tribute to the Officers and Members of Galway County G.A.A. Board for their sanction and funding of the Project, which he said will be a major benefit to Gaelic Games, for Players and Supporters alike, along with having a major spin off to Ballinasloe Town.
After a public tendering competition, two Contractors were selected for the Project andamp;ndash; Mullins Construction Ltd., for the ground works and Construction and Skyline Ltd. For the lighting Project. Both Contractors have moved onto the grounds this week and they will be supervised by the former All-Ireland Captain, Mr. Conor Hayes, C. Eng., who is the Consulting Engineer on the Project.andamp;nbsp;The County Chairman also paid tribute to the Officers of Ballinasloe G.A.A. Club, led by its Chairman, Mr. Pat Oandamp;rsquo;Sullivan, along with Mr. Seamus Duffy, (Football Chairman), Mr. Brendan Kelly, (Hurling Chairman), their fellow Officers, Members and Players for their contribution to Gaelic Games in Ballinasloe and he congratulated the Club on their proposed new Development and wished them every success with it.
