Tynagh/AD 0-16 Pearses 0-10

This game was very much in the balance at half-time, with Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry leading by the narrowest of margins, 0-7 to 0-6. The freetaking of Tomandamp;aacute;s Flannery (3) as well as scores from Cyril Donnellan, Aidan Kilkenny and Emmet Ward keeping Pearses well in the hunt, with Shane Moloney and Padraig Robinson the leaders for Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry. However, a burst of scoring in the third quarter by TAD gave them a cushion they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Scores came from Robinson, Moloney (one, a sideline cut), Colm Larkin and veteran Kevin Broderick.
With Cyril Donnellan withdrawn from attack, to centre-back, Pearses were finding it harder to put scores on the board. TAD outscored the Ballymacward/Gurteen men by 0-9 to 0-4 in the second period. Another disappointment for Pearses was a total of 11 wides, which on another day could easily have been halved. Goal chances were also in short supply and the only threat came from a long range attempt by Aidan Kilkenny as full-time approached. TAD held on comfortably in the end to advance to the group stages, while Pearses now advance to Round 2, where they will have one more chance to make the last 16.
