Pearses take on Kinvara this Saturday at 2pm in Kenny Park, Athenry in the Relegation Playoff Final. The winner retains senior status, the loser makes the dreaded drop to Intermediate. Kinvara conceded the most amount of goals in this year’s Championship, but also scored the second highest amount of goals overall, second only to Gort. They have been Senior since 1978. Pearses, it has to be said, were unlucky to not have been granted a refixture of the Athenry game and were very close to turning over Tommy Larkins in the final group match. In the Portumna game Pearses gave the former All-Ireland Champions a fright, only for two late goals from the Shannonsiders to put a gloss on the scoreline. Kinvara and Pearses last met in the 2008 Championship, also in Athenry, with Kinvara coming out on top on that occasion. This promises to be a tight contest and the result could go either way, a draw is a good possibility. See another preview over on www.galwayhurling.com andamp;ndash; they say it’s too tight to call.
