Minors through to Semi-Final

Pearses 4-11 Abbeyknockmoy 3-6: Our Minor hurlers secured a place in the Semi-Finals after a good win over Abbeyknockmoy in Kenny Park, Athenry yesterday morning. The teams were level early on, but Pearses took control and led until the finish, despite an strong second half from Abbey.
Brian Sweeney opened the scoring for Pearses, followed by a Gary Hennelly point. Abbey levelled with two points in succession, but Sweeney pushed Pearses ahead again with two more. The game’s first goal arrived on the 20th minute, from Eoghan Burke. Abbey put their third point on the board, but Pearses finished the half strongly. Keith Connell struck 1-1, to leave the half-time score 2-5 to 0-3.
Abbey were much improved in the second half and had 1-1 on the board after five minutes of play. Lee Murphy, now at full-forward got Pearses’ going again. Eoghan Burke struck for his second goal and Gary Hennelly added another to put Pearses 4-7 to 1-4 ahead twelve clear. Abbey however were not finished and grabbed two more goals to stay in the hunt. However, further points from Brian Sweeney and Gary Hennelly closed out the game, as Pearses finished 4-11 to 3-6 winners.
Pearses advance to the Minor ‘B’ Championship Semi-Finals, where they play either Sarsfields, Michael Cusacks (Beagh-Kilbeacanty) or Killimor.
