Junior Cs Denied First Win

Pearses 2-8 Kinvara 2-8: Our Junior Cs earned their first point in the Group yesterday evening, when they held off a second half onslaught by Kinvara. It was a good contest in ideal conditions and Pearses were unlucky not to hold on for the win in the end.
Pearses had most of the first half play and the forwards were going well despite losing Captain Keith Murphy to injury. Eoghan Barrett was causing problems for the Kinvara backline and he was pulled down for a penalty, which Pandamp;aacute;iric Hillary netted. Declan Lawless was also moving well at corner-forward and added 0-2. Shane Ruane and David Cunniffe put two more points on the board, in response to a Kinvara goal. Pairic Hillary tagged on 0-2 from frees. Pearses led by four at half-time (1-6 to 1-2) and it could have been more, given the amount of chances created.
Kinvara had the better of the second-half and clawed their way back into the game, mainly from placed balls and a goal midway through the half. Damian Mannion flicked a dropping ball to the net (Joe Canning style!!) to keep Pearses in front. Eoghan Barrett and Pandamp;aacute;iric Hillary scored the points. Pearses were off target with some other chances, so in the end had to settle for the draw.
Liam Mellows are next up, possibly at the weekend (details TBC), in the next Round and Pearses are still in the hunt for a Quarter-Final place with three games remaining (Mellows, St Thomas’ and Ballinderreen).
