Junior C Hurling, Round 2

Clarinbridge 1-12 Pearses 1-11. Pearses were unlucky to lose out to Clarinbridge in this Round 2 game played in Ballymacward on Saturday. Despite playing with 14 men for most of the second half, it looked like Pearses had secured a first win of the year over last year’s Champions.
Clarinbridge led 0-4 to 0-2 (Paraic Hillary, Lee Murphy) after 15 minutes. Pearses however outscored Clarinbridge 1-5 to 0-1 in the second quarter. The points from Paraic Hillary (3), Lee Murphy and David Cunniffe. The Pearses goal from a Paul Scarryandamp;nbsp;sideline cut. The ball was over the line before being pulled back out by the keeper. Pearses started the second half with another Pandamp;aacute;raic Hillary free. Clarinbridge hit back with two points, before Lee Murphy pointed a sideline cut, 1-9 to 0-7. A second yellow card for Darren Burke seen Pearses reduced to fourteen men. Clarinbridge’s extra man dropped into the half-back line and they had the next two points. Colm Queeney pointed from play for Pearses, 1-10 to 0-9.andamp;nbsp;
Declan Lawless came close to finding the net before Pandamp;aacute;raic Hillary added another long range free. Clarinbridge responded with two points, 1-11 to 0-11. Clarinbridge were pushing hard for a goal and a 21 yard free with three minutes left, flew over the bar. Two points was a dangerous lead and disaster struck in the final minute when the sliotar crept over Rory Treacy’s line for Clarinbridge to snatch the win. Next up for Pearses are Tommy Larkins, away.
