Féile Shield Football Final

Kilconly 3-5 Pearses 4-1: Many of the Pearses players were rushed to the venue following their Confirmation last Sunday, resulting in some of the best dressed GAA supporters seen in Tuam Stadium for a while. It took two periods of extra time for the teams to be separated in this Féile Shield ‘B’ Football Final. The game was finally decided with in “Sudden Death Extra Time” by a Kilconly free at the town end.
A Jack Barrett goal put Pearses five points clear in the second half of Extra time, but Kilconly did well to get back on level terms and force the Sudden Death Extra Time.
Pearses got off to a great start when they had the ball in the net in the first minute of play. However, a questionable decision by the referee came a minute later as Oisin Flannery was shown a black card. Pearses now without their main target man. 1-1 from Kilconly put them in front, before a Dean Reilly goal put Pearses back on top. Another point from Kilconly left the Half-time score 2-0 to 1-2. There was only one Kilconly point in the second half as the game finished level, 2-0 to 1-3.
Into extra time and another Dean Reilly goal for Pearses. Then a Kilconly point before Jack Barrett’s goal to put Pearses five up. In a dramatic finish Kilconly netted two goals either side of a Dean Reilly point as the game finished level, 4-1 to 3-4.
Pearses had the first attack of Sudden Death Extra time, Kilconly keeping them out and mounting their own attack. They were awarded a free and took their chance to settle the result. It was a shame that either team had to lose, but well done to Kilconly.
