We are the G.A.A. club of the Ballymacward-Gurteen parish in East Galway. The club was formed in 1966 when Ballymacward and Gurteen Junior Hurling clubs amalgamated. There has been a strong tradition of hurling in the area since before the foundation of the GAA. One of the earliest records of organised hurling in the area dates from 1882. The first club in the parish was officially affiliated to the GAA in 1886. Pádraig Pearses now fields hurling teams from U6 to Intermediate level. Hurlers from the club have represented Galway at all grades. We have an adult football team and Pádraig Pearses is joined with neighbouring Menlough for juvenile football competition (as Menlough/Pearses).
